10:30 am Water demand and potential for water conservation and reuse, Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Barjenbruch

"Water is vital. In this lecture, water resources, also in view of climate change, water demand and possibilities for saving and reusing water will be discussed.
An island solution will also be discussed using the example of the island of Ruden.
11:00 a.m. The role of water in landscapes in Africa and its importance for a good life, Ulrike Tröger, Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research - UFZ
On the one hand, it is about water-related forest conservation or renaturation/reforestation. On the other hand, it is about sediment input due to deforestation and the associated erosion. Both have an impact on the rural population. Together with a Madagascan partner, we have tried to substantiate this with figures and bring together stakeholders from the region (community representatives, national park administration, development organizations, etc.) and incorporate their perceptions and knowledge.
Secondly, there was the view of the continent - how are protected areas and socio-economic development connected and interdependent. Water was one of the sectors we looked at. Here primarily with regard to energy production, because the availability of electricity is one of the biggest obstacles to participating in "development". But water is also a major issue in the agriculture block.
12:30 p.m. Round table on water in landscapes
Break Lunch
15:00 Presentation of the water residency
The ResidenZler* will present their interim results and the German-Portuguese program will be explained.
